“Humility Goes Before Honor” (“18 x 24” original oil on canvas) is my rendering of Lou Gehrig, when on July 4, 1939, made his “Luckiest Man Alive” speech, just two weeks after being diagnosed with ALS, which has become know as Lou Gehrig’s Disease, and has taken the lives of many in the prime of their lives.  To me, what distinguishes Lou from the rest of his infamous Yankee teammates, ala Ruth, Mantle, Dimaggio and others, was the simple honor that he brought to the game.  In this poignant pose before more that 62,000 admiring fans, we see the true virtue, that “Humility Goes Before Honor”…
